The Coffee Brewing Industry has steadily evolved over the past century. The most significant development was the introduction of the paper coffee filter by Melitta. This concept was readily accepted as the most improved method of brewing coffee with a primary focus on convenience and sanitary benefits. Little consideration was given to the quality of the coffee derived as convenience appeared to outweigh any potential loss of character and flavor in the brewing process.
The next wave of coffee brewing technology introduced us to the single-cup brewer, which offered one-cup-at-a-time brewing freshness and its resulting benefits. A variety of single-serve, individually packaged coffees are available. These products, largely due to their ability to deliver a fresh, consistent coffee from a compact piece of equipment appear to satisfy a far broader spectrum of consumers.
Bodecker Brewed ® has chosen a filter that contains some cellulose fibers as well as a combination of fibers that create porosity while allowing all the critical properties in coffee to flow through to the cup. The result is unparalleled balance of acidity, aroma and body. When we examined all existing single-serve equipment in the marketplace, we were dismayed at the vast amount of refuse produced in the brewing process. With this concern in mind, Bodecker Brewed ® was driven to design a process that lends itself to being more environmentally friendly. Aluminum was chosen for a variety of reasons as the most effective container to house our patented filter process and high quality coffee. A huge benefit is that aluminum is a more superior barrier to oxygen than plastic, thus inhibiting foreign tastes from penetrating into the coffee while maintaining its capability to retain nitrogen to protect the shelf life of the coffee. Our aluminum container has a protective coating similar to that used in soda and beer cans and can be recycled with all consumer-targeted aluminum products. In our study of customer desires, a major concern was the vast amounts of garbage being transported to dumps. Further, by recycling, 90% of the hydro costs required to produce a new container are saved.
The production line and roasting facility is state-of-the-art. They have product quality assurance testing and safety features built right into the assembly line. At various points along the production line, the filters, aluminum housings and seals are checked. These checks and balances are fully automated and supplemented by manual inspections and testing.
We have named it "The Bob-Cup". A recyclable self-contained coffee portion that houses the fresh roasted and ground coffee and our patented filter medium resulting in a perfect single cup of coffee. No waste, no mess and recyclable with all aluminum products.
